The Skimmer has given me many beautiful and thoughtful gifts over the years. Pretty clothes, books, concert tickets, gels, creams, lotions. Fireplace mantles. Last day in Washington we found two clocks side by side in an antique warehouse that sum up our personal tastes and aesthetic. And then we journeyed home. First on the ferry. Goodbye to the freezing and black Puget Sound. Goodbye to the fireplace, goodbye to the pies and the cookies. Goodbye to the winter in Washington. How old does something have to be before it’s considered an antique? I suppose the cookie cutters I used to make these sugar cookie Santas and trees haven’t quite made the clip-off yet, but I calculate that they’re at least 23 years old, possibly more.
